LUSHOOTSEED ORAL STUDY. ALL MAJORS WELCOME. PREREQ ONE LUSHOOTSEED LANGUAGE CLASS: AIS 313,314, OR 315 THIS COURSE BEGINS WITH AN OVERVIEW OF THE SOUTHERN LUSHOOTSEED HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS AND AUDIO RECORDINGS OF FIRSTLANGUAGE SPEAKERS. STUDENTS WILL LEARN ABOUT RESEARCHING LUSHOOTSEED LANGUAGE MATERIALS AND DETERMINE SPECIFIC RESOURCES TO STUDY. DURING CLASSES LANGUAGE EXTRACTION WILL BE GUIDED TO CREATE A LEARNING EXPERIENCE THAT WILL ALLOW QUESTION AND SKILL BUILDING FOR ALL STUDENTS INVOLVED.
Catalog Description:
Survey of native North American languages; introduction to systems of transcription; focus on reading of texts and analysis of grammatical structure in two languages; introduction to the use of microcomputers in the description and analysis of Native American texts. Prerequisite: either AIS 313, AIS 314, or AIS 315.
