OVERVIEW OF TOPICS SURROUNDING INDIGENOUS EDUCATION, STEMMING FROM THE ORIGINAL INTENTIONS OF SCHOOLIN IN RELATION TO INDIGENOUS/ AMERICAN INDIAN/ FIRST NATION STUDENTS TO TH CURRENT REFORM EFFORTS TO INDIGENIZ AND DECOLONIZE THE CURRICULUM WITHI PUBLIC SCHOOLS BOTH LOCALLY, NATIONALLY, AND GLOBALLY. THE COURS WILL COVER THEORIES, PEDAGOGIES, AN ANTICOLONIAL/ DECOLONIAL PRAXIS TO SITUATE INDIGENOUS EDUCATION.
Catalog Description:
Traditional and European-introduced methods of schooling, the federal role in Indian education, and contemporary Indian education issues. Special attention to Indian concepts of learning; boarding school education; the role of the Bureau of Indian Affairs; current trends in bilingual and bicultural education for Indians.
